Starbucks and Me

There are quite a few places I have run into that have told me that I should blog about what I'm passionate about. I'm passionate about a lot of things: reading, writing and my kpop idols. One of the things that I'm also most passionate about aside from my writing is coffee. I love my coffee especially when it is of the Starbucks variety and come on, most of the world feels the same when it comes to coffee. And if you haven't gotten to experience Starbucks yet... well, I hope you do someday because it is quite amazing and can be an adventure in and of itself.

I love Starbucks for more than the coffee, of course, or I could just buy a bag of coffee beans and take it home and brew it there. The atmosphere of the majority of the shops is relaxed, usually with jazzy or adult alternative music playing and a soft hum of coffee machines and people chatting and drinks being made. I like to come here and write and relax and get away from the mundane that is currently my life. It's a break and it's definitely the place I go to really feel relaxed and my comfort place.

That's why I'm going to try and blog about each Starbucks experience and what I think of the drinks that I try as well as any treats I might get occasionally. Not only that, this blog will also service as a music review. Sometimes Starbucks' pick of the week and sometimes simply some new music that I've come in contact with.

Today is Thursday and I'm here at Starbucks to work on a huge transcription project that I got off of a freelancing site as well as to study for my NHA (National Healthcareer Association) exam that I have tomorrow. So, all in all I really need the coffee!

Today's Bold pick of the day was the 'Caffe Verona'. The Caffe Verona is not a drink that I've had before. And before I get down to my review of it, I'm going to tell you what Starbucks has to say about this BOLD blend:

Caffe Verona: A passion for all things Italian - including good food and great coffee - inspired this full-bodied blend of Latin American and Asia/Pacific coffees, with Italian Roast (a dark roast blend) added for depth. It's rich and well-balanced with a dark cocoa texture and a roasty sweetness, like the flavor of a fire-roasted marshmallow after you pull off the darkened cap.

Now, what what exactly does 'dark cocoa and roasty sweetness' taste like to me? I'm actually finding that I am not too fond of this brew. I'm used to bold brews and I've found quite a few that I've liked, but honestly... there is nothing sweet or nice about the Caffe Verona. It is bitter to the taste even with half and half and sweetner and in the back of the throat after you drink for some time a bitter taste and itch remains. All in all, it's not a good brew and it gets a definite thumbs down. It is smooth, it is bold but it is definitely very bitter and the bitterness remains long after you take a drink of it.

So that's my first review of coffee. Hopefully the more I do this the more experience I will have in describing my thoughts about the coffee. Now I'm off to get a refill, definitely of the Pike and not the Verona again.
